LUCY'S BABY SPICE RECIPES

BABY SPICE LENTILS

1 cup orange lentils
1/4-1/2 teaspoon curry or cumin or coriander

Put lentils in a pan and cover with water (approximately 3 cups of water). Cook until lentils are mushy, you may need to add more water or pour out extra once the lentils are done. Put into food processor or food mill with spice and blend. Lentils can be served with a dollop of winter squash and yogurt.

BABY SPICE PEAR AND APPLE SAUCE
2 Pears
2-3 medium or large apples
1/2-1 teaspoon cinnamon

Pre-heat oven to 400. Peel and core apples and cut in 1/8ths. Put apples and pears into a large pan covered with aluminum foil for 1 hour or until fruits are soft. Allow to cool. Put apples and pears into a food processor or food mill with cinnamon to taste and blend. The fruit sauce can be served with a dollop of yogurt and pureed bananas or pureed prunes.

BABY SPICE SWEET POTATO
2 medium sweet potatoes (such as garnet or jewel)
1/8-1/4 ground ginger
1/8-1/4 nutmeg

Pre-heat oven to 400. Wrap sweet potatoes in aluminum foil and place on a bake sheet. Bake for 1 hour or until sweet potatoes are very soft. Allow sweet potatoes to cool and then peel skin. Place in a food processor or food mill with spices. Water may be added for smoother consistency. Puree may be served with lentils or pureed spinach or peas.
