RECIPE

GRACE'S GRANOLA BAR FOR THE SIERRAS

3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter
3 cups rolled oats, uncooked
1 cup sliced almonds, toasted
1 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
1 1/2 cup dried fruits (figs, apricot, papaya, mango)
1/2 cup raisins

Combine brown sugar, honey, water, salt and butter in a pan and cook at medium heat, stirring for a few minutes until the mixture is thickened (about 5-7 minutes).  Next, stir in the oats, almonds, wheat germ and sesame seeds and stir for about 10 minutes until the oats are slightly toasted.  Finally, stir in the dried fruits.  Pour the mixture into a square pan and press the mixture down with a spatula.  Let it stand for about 30 minutes until cool and cut into pieces.

Serves 6-8
